So, this is my little thread for comics, not, manga, comics, and if you don't know the difference then don't bother posting. So, what do I mean by comics then? (I explain for the sake of those less knowledgeable) I'm talking Iron man, Superman, Spawn, The Watchmen, so on and so forth. I love manga, but it gets plenty of credit, so I wanted to put the spotlight on good ol' comics in this thread, the stuff I grew up with.

So, what to discuss? what you're reading (if anything), personal favorites, the industry, what you think of the of the comics in comparison to the movies, that kind of stuff. I recently got back into comics and have found some great ones.

So yeah, thats the point of this thread, even though this thread will likely crash and burn as so many others I try to start up, I'm hoping that I'll be surprised.

I don't read alot of Western comics, but I do find the Runaways and the Young Avengers to be quite fun to read. One of my friends who was originally a Western-comic fan friend who is currently being anime-converted is also tell me what are the good comics to read-- I do like the Spiderman series.

I read the first few issues of "Avengers: The Initiative." It takes place after the Civil War series, and Tony Stark (Iron Man) and his Avenger buddies (minus Spider Man and Captain America, who was... killed during the Civil War series) are training new super heroes to be the defense force for the states of America. So, some crazy shit goes down during the training, but then The Hulk shows up with his alien horde to wage war on everyone who screwed him over.

Wow, I'm amazed that anyone actually got back to this thread, I posted it about 2 or 3 weeks ago with no response, so I had pretty much given up hope. Good to see I'm not the only one on NL who reads the occasional comic book.

If you like the Runaways, I'd suggest The Loners, they were featured in issue two of the runaways and ended up getting their own mini series (for now), it's probably been the best buy in terms of comics for me all year.

I havn't gotten much into the Initiative as of yet, but I've been thinking about it, I do have the first two issues of The Last Defenders though, and there're the New jersey section of the initiative right now, it's fantastic thus far.

I also picked up the first trade of the "New" New Warriors since the last team died, which I absolutly loved, in the DC universe I've been following the new Blue Beetle series which is funny as hell (thanks Giffen).

I collect older shit.

Like 90's issues of JLA, Green Lantern.

I can't remember the series' name but it was where Static shock came from.

"Bang babies" or something.

Rogue trooper was ok as well, I had a few of those issues.

Mainly collecting the almighty Dredd though. Necropolis has to be my favourite comic story of all time, mass death etc.

EDIT: Actually going upstairs and having a drag through, I found some more.

Really early 90's ghostrider *favourite marvel character* when meathook etc came for his mum.

80's Batman.

And I think it's mid 80's/early 80's JLA when the martian manhunter goes AWOL and attacks random people.

Alright, cool-- I'll definitely check it out.

I'm mainly a big fan of Spider-man & Spawn...the others are Aliens/Predator.
I dont collect much of the Superman & Batman comics but I loved watching their shows.

I got back into comics since I first moved to N.C at the beginning of January 08 by unpacking boxes and saw a bunch of my old comic books.

I've been shopping for Spider-man comics(from 1985-1998) and the first 100 issues of Spawn comics lately so I can enjoy reading them during the summer.

You're deffinately getting back into comics at good time, there's plenty of great stuff on the shelves these days. I spend most of my money these days on either new trade issues for various comics (Moonknight, Blue Beetle, The Authority, etc) or on back issue comics like Chamber, and Weapon Zero.

I personnally really love the dark horse comics such as Aliens, Predator, Terminator and Aliens Vs. Predator. Now I am starting on the whole Marvel Zombies series. They are reprinting all of the old dark horse comics as Omnibus's. 400+ page books of all the old comics.

Great read if anyone is interested and there pretty cheap on Amazon.

^ I saw a whole bunch of Alien and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibuses, and a huge Marvel Zombies book. I only read the first arc of the Zombies, though. After that it gets too wordy to hold my interest.

To my understanding, yes. Now, onto the topic of comics:

I bought Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth today. It's a Batman comic, but the Joker's big in it. Basically it's about Batman going into the Asylum after Joker is running the whole place, but it's a psychological trip through the asylum's history. Very dark, gritty, and twisted. So, my kind of comic.

I grew up with the older Marvel comics that my dad collected when he was a kid (i.e. 60's-70's era). Pretty much my favorite comic series is probably Iron Man, Spider Man or Batman. I also like the Avengers, Captain America, the X-men and the Hulk.

I've just started the Sleepwalker series, it's a bit dated, and very obscure, but absolutely fantastic. It was done by marvel in 1991, if you like weird shit I suggest checking it out, it's super cheep (the 1st issue cost me $1.50) and very cool in an odd way.

P.S. My avatar is of Sleepwalker if that helps, also it should be mentioned that I will probably change my avatar at some point, so don't quote me three years from now if I change it to something different.
